Elvis will not be leaving the building on January 31, 2012, as “Elvis Lives” comes to the Broken Arrow Performing Arts Center, honoring “The King” during his birthday month.

It’s all part of the 2011-2012 Spotlight Series, presented by AVB Bank, Broken Arrow Convention and Visitors Bureau, TTCU, Arvest and Windstream Communications.

The Ultimate Elvis Tribute Artists Tour is a multi-media extravaganza that pays homage to Elvis Presley during various stages of his career. The performers are tribute artists who were previously selected as finalists at worldwide preliminary competitions for the Ultimate Elvis Tribute Artist competition, held annually by Elvis Presley Enterprises, Inc.

The performers portray Elvis in one of four eras: the 1950s, 1960s, during his movie career and his concert years. The Elvis tribute artists will be joined by a live band, back-up singers, dancers, and an Ann-Margret tribute artist, as well as iconic imagery made available from the Graceland archives.

The Ultimate Elvis Tribute Artist Contest, held in Memphis during Elvis Week each year, gives tribute artists around the world the opportunity to compete for cash, merchandise and a contract offer to appear in Elvis Lives, the Ultimate Elvis Tribute Artist Event. During the last five years, more than 500,000 fans have attended preliminary rounds around the world and the contest finals in Memphis.

In August, 2011, 26 talented semifinalists competed for the title of the Ultimate Elvis Tribute Artist. The winner of the 2011 Ultimate Elvis Tribute Artist Contest was Cody Slaughter of Harrison, Ark. Ben Klein of Spokane, Wash., came in second and Pete Storm of London, England took home third.

“The partnership between On Stage Touring and Elvis Presley Enterprises provides the only authentic touring showcase of Elvis tribute artists for fans who want to experience the music and live performance charisma of one of the most popular recording artists in history,” said Brian Brigner, chief operating officer of On Stage.

The Spotlight Series will offer two more shows to finish out the season. “Blast,” coming February 26, 2012, is the winner of the 2001 Tony Award for “Best Special Theatrical Event” and the 2001 Emmy Award for “Best Choreography.” Comprised of 35 brass, percussion and visual performers brought together in a unique explosion of music and theatre, “Blast” will be a show for the whole family to enjoy.

The Spotlight Series concludes when Broadway comes back to Broken Arrow on March 10, 2012, with two performances (and the Oklahoma debut) of “In The Heights,” winner of four 2008 Tony Awards® and the 2008 Grammy® Award for Best Musical Show Album. There will be both a matinee and evening performance of the show.
