Shelly Rogers and Jennifer Palmer have lots of educational, fun classes planned for kids this summer at Classroom Corner.
Spring is in the air, and a parent’s thoughts turn to…summer! The kids will be home all day – what to do? Classroom Corner has the classes and resources to keep your little ones engaged and learning. Owners Jennifer Palmer and Shelly Rogers are ready to help parents fill those summer days with creative, educational fun.
Summer classes include the Young Rembrandts series, craft and science workshops, theme classes with a variety of activities, and even baby sign language classes, beginning in April for newborns through age two. A popular option for two through five year olds is Fridays with Miss Shelly, at 9:30 a.m. and 1 p.m.
Jennifer and Shelly recently attended a major education expo in Dallas and are excited to make the newest products available to their customers. “If you come into the store and don’t see what you are looking for, please let us know so we can have the opportunity to order it or offer you alternatives. If you share with us what you need, we will be happy to help you find it,” says Jennifer.
Classroom Corner offers manipulative toys, hard-to-find puppets, strategy and logic games, puzzles of all kinds, unique gifts, arts and crafts supplies, and a huge selection of flashcards and workbooks. Featured brands are Do A Dot Art, Find It Games, Mindwear, ThinkFun and Melissa & Doug.
“It’s really important for children to keep their minds sharp during the break so that they don’t lose what they’ve learned,” explains Shelly Rogers, herself an educator. “Just reading every day can make a huge difference in their summer retention.”
Jennifer Palmer knows about helping your child keep their academics strong while out of school. Her oldest daughter, Haley, was born with cystic fibrosis and missed many days of school due to her illness. While Haley lost her brave battle with the disease in June of 2008, her legacy of educational excellence lives on in the store with the Haley’s Love of Learning Classroom.
Haley’s classroom is a great place to have story-time sessions, art classes and homeschool activities. It is available to rent for meetings or birthday parties. A variety of party options are on hand. Parents can just show up, take pictures and leave all of the work to Shelly and Jennifer, including everything from themed paper products and invitations to a group activity and take-home gift for each guest. “Parents can choose from our starter themes or give us a custom theme and we’ll go from there,” says Jennifer. If you prefer, you can rent the room and do it yourself.
Birthday boxes make it easy for friends and family to get the birthday child the perfect gift, whether or not they have the party at the store. The birthday child gets to come by and fill a box with the things they really like, so shoppers know they are getting just what the child will enjoy.
Educators will appreciate the wide variety of teacher supplies such as room décor, curriculum, resource materials and activity guides. Copy services and lamination up to 25 inches wide are available as well. “Our affordable laminating makes it easy to protect special documents and teaching supplies,” says Shelly. The end of school spurs appreciation for teachers, and Classroom Corner carries a variety of gifts and gift cards for them.
This summer the store will also be offering Tier 1 childcare classes that meet requirements for DHS certification. “These classes will start in mid-April and are great for parents, church workers, babysitters, and anyone who works with preschool age children. They aren’t just for formal educators,” explains Shelly.
With so much going on at Classroom Corner, Jennifer and Shelly encourage everyone to sign up for their preferred customer list to receive notification of class schedules and weekly specials, in addition to money-saving coupons.
Classroom Corner is open Monday through Friday 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., and offers extended hours on Thursday evenings.
