Jennifer Palmer and Shelly Rogers are taking their lives in a new direction. They decided to go into business together in July and worked diligently until Classroom Corner’s grand opening in October. The work hasn’t slowed, but Palmer and Rogers are motivated by the warm welcome they’ve received from Owasso residents. “We have stayed very hands-on. We are a two-woman crew,” said Rogers.

Classroom Corner is Owasso’s destination for educational books, toys and teaching supplies, as well as room décor, puppets and desk accessories. It is located in the Cornerstone Shopping Center near Merritt’s Bakery on 86th Street North.

Educators, Sunday school teachers, parents and grandparents should stop by to see the wide variety of merchandise. New items are arriving daily as the store prepares for the holiday season. Skip the drive to Tulsa and visit a soon-to-be favorite shopping destination.

You’ll find merchandise from Melissa & Doug, Do A Dot Art, Find It Games, ThinkFun and more. Quick and easy science experiments, marshmallow launchers and Mentos Geyser rockets are on hand. Special orders are available upon request. They also provide copier, fax and laminating services to help with all your classroom needs.

On Fridays, the store hosts one-day themed classes called Fridays with Miss Shelly. These classes feature crafts and stories designed for motor skill development, with an emphasis on rhythm, balance and coordination. They take place 9:30 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. and are for children ages two to four. Pre-registration is required. Stop by the store to register or go to the website at www.owassoclassroomcorner.com.

A variety of one-day themed events will occur at the store periodically on Saturdays. Recent classes included Pirates and Princesses Puppets and Story Time as well as a crochet class. Students must pre-register.

Sign language classes will be offered on Thursdays beginning in December. Check out the website for times and scheduling.

Personal trials may have brought Jennifer Palmer and Shelly Rogers together, but they are enthusiastic and energized by the opportunities and challenges offered by this new business. Rogers was diagnosed with congestive heart failure and had the first of four heart attacks in November of 2006. “The luxury of owning your own business is the ability to set your own schedule,” said Rogers. “A regular teaching job would not give me that luxury.”

Store co-owner Jennifer Palmer's oldest daughter, Haley, was born with cystic fibrosis. Haley lost her battle with this terrible disease in June. She was an excellent student and took her studies very seriously. Haley’s motto in life was, “Footprints in history aren't made sitting down.” Palmer decided to honor her daughter and dedicate the store classroom to her. “I needed a new turning point. Haley’s passion was academics. She maintained A’s in every subject,” said Palmer. “This classroom keeps her memory alive and betters students in a number of areas.”

Haley’s Love of Learning Classroom is perfect for story time sessions, art classes and homeschool activities. “If you need a place to hold a party or meeting, the room is available for a small fee,” said Palmer.

On December 8, Classroom Corner will celebrate the proclamation of Haley Palmer Day and offer a 20 percent discount on all of Haley’s favorite items such as Find Its and crossword puzzles.

Two weekly specials, one toy-related and one teacher-related, are offered, and exclusive discounts are available by signing up for the e-mail list while at the store.

The store stays open until 8 p.m. on Thursdays so shoppers can come in after work. They open at 9 a.m. Monday through Saturday and will have extended hours during the holiday season.
