Donate Shoes to Soles4Souls

Most of us never give a second thought to the shoes we put on our feet each morning.

Tabitha Felts, owner of Felts Shoes in Claremore, offers dozens of popular children’s styles for back to school. Her store is an official collection location for Soles4Souls, an organization providing shoes for those in need around the corner and around the world.

Most of us never give a second thought to the shoes we put on our feet each morning. We take for granted that which is considered a basic need – footwear.

While much of the world does not have even one adequate pair of shoes, Americans have an abundance of footwear, often sitting idle in closets, too old or too out of style to wear. We now have a chance to make a significant difference in the quality of life of those who are in desperate need. Felts Shoes is asking that you bring the shoes you seldom or never wear to the store to donate to Soles4Souls.

Soles4Souls was born out of responding to natural disasters, both domestic and international. The organization focuses on disaster relief, and ongoing shoe donations help maintain a ready inventory so that they can respond quickly to a disaster. Throughout the past year, the United States had an abundance of crises across the nation. With the wildfires in Southern California, floods in the Midwest, and tornados in the Southeast, Soles4Souls was able to respond quickly and efficiently with needed footwear. The support from individuals makes it possible for Soles4Soles to continue to meet the needs of others during their darkest hours.

Shoes are frequently supplied in the Appalachian Mountains region of the United States, where the need for basic items is staggering. The request for new and gently-worn footwear is always in high demand.

Soles4Souls will also be providing two pairs of shoes each for up to 6,000 children attending 140 camps in the country that focus on abused and neglected children. Most of these children do not have a pair of shoes in adequate condition or that fit properly.

In conjunction with their annual back-to-school specials, Felts will be offering a discount on the purchase of a new pair of shoes to anyone dropping off one or more used pairs for Soles4Souls. Complete details are available at the store.

Felts Shoes was started in 1939 by the grandfather of Tabitha Felts’s husband. The Felts family owns and operates a total of nine Felts Shoes stores in northeastern Oklahoma. They cater to the entire family, with recreational, athletic, casual, and work shoes. Cleated shoes for soccer, football and baseball are specialties of the Claremore store.

Tabitha encourages you to do all of your shopping in Claremore and save the gas money you would spend driving to Tulsa. “Also, don’t forget that the first weekend in August has been declared ‘Tax Free’ in the state of Oklahoma. Felts will be open Friday and Saturday, August 1 and 2, whereby patrons will enjoy added savings by not paying taxes on their purchases,” she said.

When shopping at Felts for back-to-school shoe fashions, be sure to notice their clearance displays, where sandals and other styles will be discounted to make room for seasonal and new styles.
