Backpacks – check. New clothes and uniforms – check. Paper and pencils – check. These are just a few items that parents think about on their looming back-to-school lists. Getting the kids ready to go back to school can be a costly time for parents and guardians. One thing they don’t have to worry about is shelling out cash for a new back-to-school haircut. Clary Sage College and Oklahoma Technical College, branches of Community Care College, are giving back to the community by holding their 4th annual Cuts for Kids event. This exciting event offers free haircuts to school age children in the Tulsa metro area.

Cuts for Kids will be held on August 8 and 9 from 9:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. at Clary Sage College, located at 3131 S. Sheridan, and on August 15 and 16 from 9:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. at Oklahoma Technical College, located at 4444 S. Sheridan.

Last year, this event made over 750 Tulsa students happy, and they are expecting an even bigger turnout this year. While being supervised by master educators, cosmetology students of Clary Sage College (CSC) and barber students of Oklahoma Technical College (OTC) get real-world experience and get to practice their acquired skills while giving back to the Tulsa community. Teresa Knox, founder and CEO of Community Care College, Clary Sage College, and Oklahoma Technical College, mentions how alumni even come back to volunteer with this event since this is usually the college students’ favorite community event to participate in. Students of CSC and OTC are giving to the children of Tulsa the confidence and good looks to start the new school year off on the right foot.

According to Teresa, “The atmosphere of Cuts for Kids is fun, energized, and professional. Our students are excited to practice their technical skills as well as their soft skills for customer service.” Both campuses are trendy in their appearance, promote health and wellness, and emulate the pure artistry that goes on behind their doors. Teresa says, “Our students do an incredible job.” Since this is a community-driven function that focuses on the technical skills and the customer service skills of their superiorly trained students, parents and Tulsa metro students will be pleased with their experience and results.

Appointments are not necessary, but parents are welcome to call to see about the wait time since it can get busy. No styling is done during this time. So if parents and children are looking for styling or flat ironing, it cannot be done at the same time as the free haircut. However, they are giving to parents a ten dollar voucher, Clary Cash, to be used towards the many services that Clary Sage offers, like hair care, skin care, nail care, or massage – another perfect back-to-school treat for the kids’ new looks. Or better yet, parents, use the voucher for the much needed massage after all the back-to-school frenzy.

Parents, rest assured that your children will be put in the most capable hands. Clary Sage College and Oklahoma Technical College are licensed and accredited institutions offering various diploma and degree programs. CSC offers programs in barista, cosmetology, esthetics, fashion design, interior design, makeup artistry, massage therapy, nail technology, and master instructor. Additionally, OTC offers programs in automotive and welding technology and barbering. “Our schools have an unwavering commitment to our students, employees, community, charities that we support, and our vendors,” Teresa proudly states. Driven by rock-solid core values, the colleges’ goals are to make the world a better place, starting with the Tulsa community, and what better way to help the Tulsa community than by lessening the burden of back-to-school costs for parents and families and by infusing Tulsa’s youth with self confidence for the impending school year, no matter what the family’s income is.
