Plenty of action-packed drama will be supplied by the rough stock at the 63rd Annual Will Rogers Stampede PRCA Rodeo, May 21-23.

The 63rd annual Will Rogers Stampede PRCA Rodeo is coming to Claremore! The event is scheduled for Thursday, Friday and Saturday, May 21-23, at the Stampede Arena located 1.5 miles east of Claremore on Blue Starr Drive, next door to beautiful Claremore Lake.

The Will Rogers Stampede has been named PRCA Rodeo of the Year three times in the past ten years and is rated as one of the top-ranked rodeos in the state of Oklahoma. The Stampede takes top-ranked cowboys and cowgirls on the trail to the National Finals Rodeo, held each year the first week of December in Las Vegas. Only the top 15 money winners in each rodeo event qualify for nationals.

The Stampede Rodeo will begin each night at 7:30 p.m. and will include a grand entry highlighting the Glory Riders. The action-packed event will also feature bareback bronc riding, steer wrestling, saddle bronc riding, tie-down roping, team roping, WPRA barrel racing, and crowd-pleasing sections of bull riding.

In addition, there will be a kids' calf scramble, cowpokes mutton bustin’, a box holders’ burro race, and a clown act featuring Rockin’ Robbie Hodges. This year Rockin’ Robbie brings sumo wrestling to the rodeo arena. You can see more of Robbie on his website at

David Petty, Will Rogers Stampede PRCA Rodeo committee member, says that the rodeo is the longest-running event in Rogers County.

This year’s event will boast over 500 contestants from 23 states, and the purse of more than $70,000 will be paid out to competing cowboys and cowgirls. Some of the rodeo stars to be on hand at the Stampede include Trevor Brazile, Mike Johnson, Cash Myers, Fred Whitfield, Will Lowe and Guy Allen.

Raising rodeo livestock is a big business today. Award-winning stock contractor Dell Hall from the Rafter H. Rodeo Company in Hulbert, OK will again be furnishing rough stock for the Will Rogers Stampede PRCA Rodeo. Dell is highly recognized in the business and has been furnishing rank stock for events across the country for 35 years.

“Box seat holders are sold out each year, and these and other sponsors are the backbone of our annual event,” said David Petty, committee member and rodeo chairman for the last five years. “If it were not for all our great sponsors, there would be no Will Rogers Stampede PRCA Rodeo.” This year’s rodeo chairman is Scott Gouard.

Saturday night will feature a special tribute to former state and federal lawmaker, lobbyist and Hall of Fame rodeo announcer Clem McSpadden, who lost his battle with cancer last year. He announced in Claremore rodeos for over 40 years. McSpadden was the great-nephew of Oklahoma’s own Will Rogers and was a member of the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association Hall of Fame.
