The downtown Claremore retail landscape has a new resident with old ties to the community.  Centsible Spending, a thrift store run by Rogers County Training Center, opened its doors to the public a few months ago at 400 W. Will Rogers Boulevard.  The Rogers County Training Center is a crucial part of Home of Hope’s programs for men and women with special needs throughout Northeast Oklahoma.
“Centsible Spending thrift store is not new to Claremore,” said Dr. Ralph Richardson, executive director of Home of Hope. “We’ve had several other previous locations, but we are enjoying our spacious new store in the historic downtown district and will be able to offer even more to our loyal customers.”
Immediately following their opening on main street, the retail space right next door became available and the store was able to expand, almost doubling their footprint in December of 2016. This expansion now features larger furniture items including dining tables, sofas, beds and much more.
But, Centsible Spending is more than just a retail business.  It is a mission.  The store is managed by Rogers County Training Center, which serves over 200 individuals in a six-county area with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
“The retail store allows us to provide these individuals with independence and a meaningful way of life,” said Richardson. “And, the store helps us obtain funds to keep the program thriving, while providing the community with home goods and other necessities at low-prices, which in turn helps people who may have been hit with hard economic times.”
Currently, there are five clients working at the Centsible Spending location with the aid of two staff persons.
Donations to the Home of Hope are always welcome at any of their six stores throughout the region.  They accept clothing, home décor, accessories, seasonal items and furniture.  But that’s not the only source of community support you can participate in.
The 32nd Annual Rogers County Training Center Golf Classic hosted by BancFirst is in full swing.  Set for May 5, 2017 at Heritage Hills Golf Course in Claremore, Oklahoma, this tournament lets participants make memories and have fun while raising awareness and funding for the Home of Hope and Rogers County Training Center.
Four person golf teams can now register for $300.  If you are an individual wanting to play, you may sign up now as well and you will be placed on a team.  Golfers will receive lunch and chances to win top tournament prizes.
There are sponsorships now available for the tournament including Major Events Sponsorship $1,000, Ace Level Sponsorships for $500 each, a Beverage Cart Sponsorship for $400, a Practice Green Sponsorship for $250 and Hole Sponsorships for $100.
