If you leave your house lights on at night this time of year, you are sure to find a bunch of June bugs crawling around on your porch by morning. The June bugs know it’s time to get up and get moving, and they can inspire us to do the same at the 4th annual June Bug Jog presented by Pelco Structural.

“We strive to promote health and wellness throughout the community by challenging everyone of all ages and athletic abilities to get off the couch and get moving,” says Melissa Dick-Herriman, event director with her husband, Larry. “The June Bug Jog is a very family-friendly event, and we encourage parents to bring their kids to run the Fun Run as a family.”

Melissa is pleased to report a significant increase in participation over the last three years. For the past two years, there have been over 300 racers, and she expects that growth to continue. Melissa also points out that start times have changed this year. The event will kick off at 7:30 a.m. Saturday morning, June 16 at Claremore Lake for entrants who choose the 5K run, and 8:15 a.m. for those who choose the one-mile Fun Run. Most of those winding their way down and back around beautiful Claremore Lake will be runners and joggers, but the course is available to walkers, too. In addition, strollers and leashed pets are allowed on the Fun Run.

Time Line Results will chip-time the race, ensuring accuracy of results. First, second, and third place in both male and female categories will be recognized in the 5K race, as well as the first three places in the standard age groups. Each Fun Run participant will also receive an award.

Whether you want to enter the 5K or the Fun Run, the entry fee is $20 if you register before June 7. Early registrants receive a T-shirt. After June 7, the registration fee is $25. Runners who are under the age of 16 can register for $10 with a paid adult (limit one adult per under 16). If you would like to preregister for this event, visit www.junebugjog.com. On-site registration begins at 7 a.m. the morning of the race.

As always, the June Bug Jog primarily benefits Claremore Public Schools Foundation. “We are proud to be partners in this event with the Claremore Public Schools Foundation to help them in their efforts to provide teachers and schools with materials, equipment, field trips and with other special projects,” says Melissa. “We look forward to this being a long-lasting relationship.”
