The City of Broken Arrow has announced the hiring of Aaron McColloch as its new Communications and Media Relations Manager. “The Communications and Media Relations Manager is the primary spokesperson for the City of Broken Arrow while managing the City’s Communications Divisions, which includes the City’s website, social media channels, newsletters, press events, media relations and Cox Cable Channel 24” said City Manager Michael Spurgeon. “The City has set a very high level of expectations when it comes to transparency and we needed a person with the background and experience to meet this on-going responsibility. I’m excited that Aaron will be joining our leadership team and bringing his wealth of knowledge and enthusiasm to our organization.”

McColloch is an award-winning communications professional having spent more than 20 years in local news in the Tulsa TV market holding various positions including Chief Photographer, Assistant News Director and Digital Director. He has won numerous awards from the Associated Press, Oklahoma Association of Broadcasters, National Press Photographers Association, a Heartland Regional Emmy, three Regional Edward R. Murrow awards, and two National Edward R. Murrow awards.

In 2018, McColloch transitioned to the public sector and became the Director of Communications and Marketing for Sapulpa Public Schools. At Sapulpa, he was responsible for leading the communications efforts for the school district, marketing, brand management, media relations, and telling the stories of the students and staff in the district.

“I am excited and grateful for this opportunity to work for the city in which I live,” McColloch said. “Telling the stories that will keep our citizens informed is a responsibility I do not take lightly, and I look forward to working with the talented individuals at the City to fulfill that obligation. Broken Arrow really is the city Where Opportunity Lives!”

McColloch is a life-long Oklahoman, born and raised in Tulsa. He has lived in Broken Arrow for the better part of the last 10 years. He and his wife Amy along with their four children reside in the city’s south side where he also serves as president of his neighborhood’s homeowners association.

McColloch began working for the city July 19.
