Dale Boatmun, president of Bixby Optimist Club, invites you and your family to the Green Corn Festival.

The annual Bixby Green Corn Festival is taking place right now in downtown Bixby. This festival is a throwback to traditional, family-oriented good times, with carnival rides, music, arts & crafts, food, bingo and more all-age games and activities than you can shake an ear of corn at!

The Bixby Green Corn Festival was started during World War II by Clyde Miller, a prominent man in the corn business who wanted to celebrate a fruitful season and reward his pickers and packers. Since 1975, the Green Corn Festival has been sponsored by the Bixby Optimist Club. “This festival gives residents the opportunity to enjoy an old-fashioned festival,” said President Dale Boatmun. “The Bixby Optimist Club handles tons of behind-the-scenes details like cleanup and prize giveaways for bingo, contests and drawings. It takes a lot of people to make this happen.”

The festival is celebrated annually on the fourth Thursday, Friday and Saturday of June. This year, it’s June 26, 27 and 28. Downtown Bixby, south of 151st and east of Memorial, will be lined with food and craft vendors. Charley Young Park is hosting many of the games and booths, as well as the Gazebo Stage. Just a short distance away, you’ll find the Youth Stage and the carnival.

The traditional giveaway of free roasted ears of corn occurs Thursday night. Each day of the festival will include musical acts on multiple stages: Thursday is gospel night, Friday and Saturday are country days, and Saturday night offers a street dance. The festival is hosting a 5K run for the athletically inclined, and bingo is always a popular activity. Most importantly, the Bixby Green Corn Festival provides three days of fun for the whole family.
