Shelly and Jeff Waters provide wedding gown preservation and much more at WaterStone Cleaners in Owasso.
The morning Jeff Waters found himself putting on a fresh shirt in the parking lot of the dry cleaners, he knew there had to be a better way of doing things. The night before, he had worked late and was unable to pick up the family cleaning, which forced him to return before work the next day to pick up the shirt he needed. Jeff thought to himself, “Wouldn’t it be nice if someone brought the clean clothing back to the house so I didn’t have to worry about it?” The idea, plus 15 years of experience in the commercial uniform industry with Cintas Corporation, was all the inspiration he needed.
Jeff and his wife Shelly launched their own company, WaterStone Cleaners, offering a unique approach to the traditional storefront. They provide a residential pickup and delivery service on a regular route in the Owasso area. The clothing is processed at their plant and delivered to homes the following service day. Customers in Owasso have enjoyed the service for the past two and a half years.
Some customers, however, prefer personal contact and going to a physical location. They can now do that in Owasso as well.
Shelly said that opening the store in their community has been a thrill. She is a 1989 graduate of Owasso High School, and the family attends Owasso’s First Christian Church. Jeff is on the Board of Directors for the Owasso Chamber of Commerce and the board of the Owasso Education Foundation. Their children are involved in baseball and cheerleading for Owasso schools.
“This is our home, and it’s a growing market that we are very happy to be a part of. It’s great to be able to provide a service to our friends and neighbors,” said Shelly.
WaterStone Cleaners opened April 1 in the Fairway Market at the corner of 96th Street North and Garnett Road. The new building boasts a large, beautifully-decorated interior that is quiet and serene. The atmosphere makes picking up your dry cleaning a pleasure, should you choose to. A drive-through pickup window is available, as well as a 24-hour drop box so that you don’t have to hurry to the cleaners. “We give our customers multiple options: standard drop-off and pickup, after hours drop-off or use of our valet service, which does it all for you,” said Jeff.
Although the Owasso location is new, the experience behind it will surely instill confidence in customers. Jeff and Shelly Waters also own DeHoney’s Dry Cleaning, a business that has been in the same location in Tulsa since the 1920s. Besides Jeff’s own background in commercial uniform service, plant manager Sherri Long has over 20 years of dry cleaning experience and is a member of the Drycleaning and Laundry Institute International. She is an expert at stain removal and garment processing, and she leads a team of ten who are just as dedicated as she is to quality workmanship.
In addition to the regular dry cleaning and laundry services, WaterStone does alterations, cleans comforters, preserves wedding gowns, and shines and repairs shoes. They can also handle all your leather and suede cleaning. The cleaning solutions used are nontoxic, odorless and environmentally friendly, and WaterStone encourages customers to recycle hangers and plastic bags.
Jeff and Shelly Waters understand the busy schedules of today’s families, and with three children of their own, 13-year-old Austin, Ashlyn, almost 6, and 19-month-old baby Curtis, they know the value of being able to trust a service provider to do the job well.
Jeff says that they stand behind their work 100 percent. “We want to change how people view their dry cleaning experience, from a chore to a pleasure. If there’s a problem, the only question we ask is how we can make it right.”
WaterStone Cleaners is open Monday through Friday 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Same-day service is available, and they offer a ten percent service discount to members of the clergy and the military, police officers, firefighters and emergency medical technicians.
