The third annual Bixby Freedom Celebration will be held on June 30, 2017 at The Bridge Church’s undeveloped property at 121st & Memorial. Sponsored by The Bridge Church along with many area businesses, the event celebrates the Fourth of July with a fireworks display and a festival atmosphere.
Pastor Orlando Juarez of the Bridge Church started the event three years ago as a way to give back to the community, and the very first year drew about 5,000 people to the property. The event was a hit and has continued to grow each year, so much that the upcoming 2017 Bixby Freedom Celebration is expected to welcome at least 20,000 attendees.
“We wanted to be a blessing to the community, said Pastor Juarez. “Patriotism and Christianity go hand in hand, and we have enough bad news about what’s going wrong. We’d like to at least celebrate what’s going right. It’s an opportunity to say this is what’s good about America, and I think that’s how God looks at us; he’s focused on what’s right with us.”
The Bridge Church invites people of all faiths to enjoy the Fourth of July celebration, and you do not need to be a member of the church to attend.  For 2017, the Bixby Freedom Celebration will have more food vendors, a larger Kids Zone, and a distinguished guest speaker lineup, including Congressman Jim Bridenstine and Dr. Everett Piper of Oklahoma Wesleyan University. The presentation will be emceed by KFAQ’s Pat Campbell and will incorporate moving patriotic tributes, such as the national anthem and a public swearing in ceremony of new military recruits.
“It’s about celebrating our freedom and those who have helped make it possible with the best fireworks show available,” said Pastor Juarez. “Without God’s love and overwhelming blessing, this event couldn’t continue to serve the community as it has in the past,” he added.
Entry is free. Bring your lawn chairs, blankets, family, and friends to the northwest corner of 121st & Memorial on Friday, June 30, 2017. Grounds open at 4:30 p.m. The patriotic presentation begins at 8 p.m. and will be followed by the fireworks.
