The Rogers County Health Department will host the 5th Annual ShamROCKIN’ Family Fun Day on Friday, March 20, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Claremore Community Center, 2301 N. Sioux Ave.
This free, family-friendly event brings together local organizations for a day of fun activities and wellness resources, where attendees can explore community partner booths, enjoy games and crafts, and learn about programs and services available through the health department and other local organizations.
“ShamROCKIN’ Family Fun Day is one of our favorite opportunities to bring the community together,” said David Chissoe, Ed.D., LPC, Regional Administrative Director for District 4, which includes Rogers County. “It’s a chance for families to have fun, connect with local organizations, and learn about resources that support healthier, safer lives. Whether you’re coming for the games, the giveaways, or to learn about services like CarFit and safe sharps disposal, there truly is something for everyone.”
New this year, the event will feature CarFit, a free educational program designed to help older drivers ensure their vehicle is properly adjusted for comfort and safety.
Small adjustments to seat position, mirrors, and steering wheel placement can significantly improve visibility, control, and overall driving confidence. During the event, trained technicians will work one-on-one with participants to assess how well their vehicle “fits” them and provide personalized recommendations. Appointments are required.
To schedule a CarFit appointment, call Chrissy Swift at 918-341-3166 or email Margo Alinger at eat0@eau0eav0eaw0.
Community members will also have the opportunity to safely dispose of unwanted sharps during a drive-thru Sharps Take-Back event held as part of ShamROCKIN’ Family Fun Day. The service provides a convenient and responsible way to dispose of sharps while helping reduce the risk of injury and protect public health.
In addition, staff from the Oklahoma Childhood Lead Poisoning Prevention Program will demonstrate specialized equipment used to test household items for potential lead contamination. The interactive demonstration will help families understand how everyday items may contain lead and how to reduce exposure, especially for young children.
