Dean Kinzer, known as Mr. Dean by most of his patrons, is the Owner of Winganon Cafe & Bait.  The store is located in the Winganon Community just east of the Winganon Bridge on Lake Oologah.  I can honestly say that Dean is one of the nicest men I’ve ever had the pleasure of meeting.  But, how can you not like a man who loves fishing and Barbecue?
Winganon Cafe & Bait is home to really great hickory smoked barbeque, select grocery items, a full line of fishing tackle including excellent catfish and crappie rigs, and the most popular live baits and frozen baits.  There is an adjacent, full-hookup (30 or 50 amp) RV Park with rental trailers and nine storage units available.
The Winganon community was established in the late 1800s, long before Oklahoma gained statehood in 1907.  When asked how many residents currently live in Winganon, Mr. Dean pointed to his store-front sign.  The sign boasts, “Population: NVM,” to which Mr. Dean replied, “Not very many!”  A few years ago, Mr. Dean received a Christmas card that had a painting of a warm, inviting little general store.  He liked what he saw and pinned the card to his bulletin board thinking that one day he would like to give his store a face-lift resembling the store on the card.  Three years later he did just that.
The Winganon cafe menu features items that include hickory smoked ribs, brisket and bologna, chicken, shrimp and fish, hamburgers, burritos, hot and cold sandwiches, breakfast selections and a variety of side dishes.  They also provide carry-out and catering services.  The store is open every day from sunup to sunset and all items on the menu may be ordered any time of day.  “We like to accommodate our customers with good food anytime they’re hungry.  And we generally save them money on fishing equipment purchases,” said Mr. Dean.
If you like to crappie fish, you’ll want to check out Winganon Cafe & Bait Shop’s Annual Crappie Tournament that runs each March, April and May.  It ensures a 100% cash payback plus added money for each monthly winner.  You can also enter the grand prize competition, which awards cash for the aggregate total weight over the three-month period.  Talk with Mr. Dean for complete details.
Mr. Dean and his Winganon Cafe & Bait staff like people and genuinely enjoy providing customers with four of the basics of a great outing…fishing, camping, fellowship and great hickory smoked barbeque!  If you like to fish or eat, venture a little off the beaten path and check out the Winganon Cafe & Bait Store.  Mr. Dean and his friendly staff will be at the door welcoming you!
