The Annual Will Rogers and Wiley Post Fly-In Continues to Delight.

The Annual Will Rogers and Wiley Post Fly-In Continues to Delight.

Famous actor and humorist Will Rogers, along with accomplished aviator and fellow Oklahoman, Wiley Post, suffered a fatal plane crash over Alaska on Aug. 15, 1935.  For more than 30 years, on the weekend closest to Aug. 15, an annual fly-in has been held in honor and celebration of the lives of the two friends at the birthplace home of the late Will Rogers located at 9501 E. 380 Rd. in Oologah, Oklahoma.
On Saturday, Aug. 12, the event is slated once again to draw crowds and smiles, alike, as a variety of activities are scheduled.
Between 100 and 150 pilots from a four state area will participate, landing their planes on a 2,000-foot grass landing strip. The planes will begin landing as early as 8 a.m.  Attendees will have the opportunity to get up close and personal, visiting with the pilots and touring everything from homemade and antique planes to war planes and helicopters.
At 9 a.m., two very special guests, resembling Will Rogers and Wiley Post, will make their appearances.
Gene Loyd will be entertaining the crowds with music on the front porch of the birthplace home, and Robert Lewis, Cherokee Storyteller, will also be performing.
Next to the runway, an antique car and motorcycle show will be ongoing as well as Inflatables, games and crafts to delight the younger spectators. Food trucks and vendors will be onsite throughout the event as well.
The birthplace home will be open for visitor tours. So, too, will the barn and petting zoo. Admission is free, but donations are welcome.
Bring your lawn chairs and enjoy this historic event that is sure to send the spirit soaring.
