“You never can tell with Oklahoma weather,” says Leilani Hughes, who co-owns S&W Tree Specialists with her parents, her husband, Dale Hughes, and her brothers, Bryan Merseburgh and Robby Mizumura. The family owned and operated tree service has seen it all. And after this last winter our state has experienced, there are only two safe predictions about the upcoming seasons: it will be hot and there will be storms.

“Our customers are our top priority,” says Leilani. S&W services all of the greater Tulsa area, from Muskogee to Mannford and Oologah to Bixby. S&W gains business by word of mouth for the most part, from satisfied customers to their families and to their businesses. S&W covers all realms of the tree care field.

With such unpredictable weather as Oklahoma has, S&W has introduced a new service called Tree Shield, for the environmental and safety-conscious person. For a fixed monthly rate, S&W Tree Specialists will tailor a service plan to the needs of the property.  “Tree Shield works great for apartment complexes and large properties,” explains Hughes. Industrial and commercial lots, as well as home owners who run rental properties, are also well-suited for the program. When a customer signs up for the annual Tree Shield contract, they lock in a deal based on winter rates. “This time of year, the landscape companies are raising rates – it’s the busiest season,” explains Hughes. “When a customer signs up with Tree Shield, they not only get a bargain on hourly rates, but they’ll get priority when a storm hits.”

Whenever a tornado, microburst or bad thunderstorm comes through, everyone rushes to call in tree service companies and things get even busier. With Tree Shield, you’re already on the schedule. And since tree specialists have been regularly maintaining the property, it is likely that storm damage will not be nearly as bad as it would have been otherwise.

Co-owner Dale Hughes, a certified arborist with the ISA (International Society of Arborculture), leads S&W in tree pruning and maintenance, which can be a mix of proactive and reactive service. “Reducing – where you selectively remove only about a third of the tree – is one thing, but tree topping is bad for the trees.” Hughes says taking out too much of the tree will compromise the foliage, and prevent it from staying healthy and strong enough to survive, let alone withstand an Oklahoma storm.

Of course, if a storm does take out branches, safe and swift removal is needed. S&W excels in this department. Providing 24-hour emergency service, the company is ready for anything. With a fleet of powerful utility trucks and all the right tools, they take a near disaster and create a safe zone.

Though S&W is well-equipped for extreme situations, they also handle routine maintenance. Services provided include seasonal tree trimmings and feedings, lawn pre- and post-emergent, and fertilizing.

The company prides itself on offering the best service at competitive rates, with attention to the specific needs of a property. Based in Coweta, S&W Tree Specialists serves a client base that extends from Muskogee to Mannford and from Oologah to Bixby.

S&W has a proven record of handling high-profile landscapes and urban forests, with an account roster that includes FedEx, Brookhaven and St. John’s. Customers can count on S&W Tree Specialists to keep trees and landscapes green and healthy. With spring in full bloom, now is the time to make sure every step is taken to protect your plants for the year with Tree Shield.
