Elementary schools expect students to have developed proficient reading skills by first grade, but many children struggle to keep up without the proper level of individualized support and instruction. The Mission of the Caring Grands Reading Program is to provide tutoring to struggling readers. Volunteers spend 30 minutes a week during the school year to provide one-on-one tutoring with eligible first and second-graders, equipping them with tools to become successful readers before entering third grade. If you're interested in helping the next generation succeed in school, you can attend a free Tutor Training workshop on Thursday, August 15 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Creek County Literacy Program in Sapulpa. Find more information about the program in the August 2019 edition of VALUES News Magazine and at ValueNews.com.
