The Tulsa Performing Arts Center Gallery has extended an invitation to Tulsa Girls Art School to create Walking Tall, a “Kinky Boots” inspired art show in conjunction with the premier of Kinky Boots, the musical, Feb. 2-7, 2016. “We encourage our students to ‘walk tall’ through self-expression and creativity. By enriching their artistic ability, they gain a sense of bravery and confidence that extends to many parts of their life,” says Matt Moffett, executive director. For this show, the students repurposed old or unfinished canvases to paint their boots. Many let the designs from the previous piece show through on the canvas to create a new and interesting dimension. In addition to paintings, the girls have created wearable art in the form of boots. The transparent rain boots became an inspiring blank canvas for the girls’ whimsical designs. Throughout all these works, they ‘walked tall,’ taking pride in their ideas and execution, which is apparent through the variety of colors, textures, and settings of each unique piece. All pieces are for sale with 30% of sales going into a micro-savings account for each student. The opening reception for Walking Tall is Tuesday, Feb. 2 from 6 – 7:30 p.m. at the Tulsa Performing Arts Center Gallery. Walking Tall will be on display Feb. 2-29, Monday-Friday 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and during Chapman Music Hall events in the PAC Gallery, 110 E. 2nd St., Tulsa, Ok. More about TGAS TGAS works to empower talented and motivated young girls from underserved Tulsa schools by providing them with specialized art training. It provides a small class environment, which allows for quality individualized instruction and the students’ quarterly art show teaches the girls to be savvy entrepreneurs. Whether the medium is blown glass, metal sculpture, fiber art or fine oil painting, students experience a new and diverse curriculum curated by founder and Executive Director Matt Moffett. This webinar is offered by the Economics and Legal Studies in Business Department and the OSU Center for Executive and Professional Development in the Spears School of Business Winning the Battle and Losing the War: Retaliation in the Workplace presented by Griffin Pivateau, J.D. Human nature creates a tendency to retaliate against those who accuse them of wrongdoing. The law, however, prohibits employers from punishing employees for exercising rights assured to them. Retaliating can create employer liability, even where no underlying wrong existed. Over the last decade, retaliation claims against employers have increased over 35%. All supervisors, in addition to human resources staff members, should receive instruction on avoiding retaliation and preventing retaliation complaints from their employees. At the end of this webinar, you will be able to describe what constitutes retaliation, state why it is important for employers to comply with laws against retaliation, name employment laws that include protection against retaliation, and describe ways to avoid retaliation and prevent complaints.

For more than fifty years, The Temptations have prospered, propelling popular music with a series of smash hits, and sold-out performances throughout the world. The Temps began their musical life in Detroit in the early sixties. It wasn't until 1964 however, that the Smokey Robinson written-and-produced "The Way You Do the Things You Do" turned the guys into stars. The classic lineup consisted of Otis Williams, Melvin Franklin, Paul Williams, Eddie Kendricks and David Ruffin. Beyond the fabulous singing, The Temps became known for smooth stepping and flawless presentations. The Temptations Walk became a staple of American style. The current lineup consists of Otis Williams, Ron Tyson, Terry Weeks, Joe Herndon, and Bruce Williamson. "Our challenge," says Williams, "is to live in the present while respecting the past. Our past is filled with riches only a fool would discard. At the same time, we thrive on competition. As a Motowner, I grew up in the most competitive musical atmosphere imaginable. But we also understand that for a group with history, no matter how glorious that history might be, reinvention is the name of the game."

The Tristesse Grief Center will have their 5th annual Hike for Healing at Turkey Mountain on Saturday, March 5th. Sign-in starts at 8:00 a.m. and the run begins at 9:00 a.m. Hike for Healing is a 5K and Memorial Mile raising money to provide professional grief counseling to those who cannot afford to pay. “Hike for Healing started out as a memorial event for our clients,” says Tyler Caldwell, Board Member at The Grief Center and Co-Chair of the 2016 Hike, “And each year it has grown more and more. It is now open to everyone in the community.” “Hike for Healing is exactly what it sounds like: a chance to heal,” says Amanda Shank, Co-Chair of Hike for Healing 2016. “The hike is all about remembering those we have lost, and creating happy memories while honoring our loved ones. That message is universal and touches everyone, whether you’re an experienced runner or not.” “Hike for Healing is unique in Tulsa because it is a trail run,” says Caldwell. “It’s held at Turkey Mountain, which is a beautiful piece of natural Oklahoma. There’s something therapeutic about running through those trails.” Trail running has become a phenomenon in its own right, and hike participants will be able to run or walk the blue trail through beautiful Turkey Mountain. The red trail is being used as the Memorial Mile track. “It is more than just a 5K because it’s about emotional healing as well as physical health,” Shank says. “This cause is close to my heart because I’ve experienced loss. I’m honored to be able to raise money that will help people in need get professional counseling.” Registration for Hike for Healing is $30 for adults (11+), $20 for Grief Center clients, and free for children. Registration includes a race bib, a t-shirt, and the after party. Runners can register online at Hike4Healing2016.Eventbrite.com, visit facebook.com/TheGriefCenter, check out Twitter @TheGriefCenter, or call The Grief Center at 918.587.1200 for more information.

With "couch to 5K" running programs becoming a popular fitness trend, the folks behind ShamRock the 'Ville had the idea of making a fun, energizing community event out of it. While technically a competition, runners are encouraged to have as much fun as they can and go at their own pace. St. Patrick's Day costumes are welcome and runners will receive shouts of encouragement for each block they complete. For experienced runners who want to get a work out or those who are working toward fitness goals there is a USATF certified 5K (3.1 miles) race that begins in downtown Bartlesville at 6th and Jennings. For beginners or those who just want to take it easier, there is also a one mile fun run beginning right after the 5K starts. Costumes are more than welcome during the fun run, as are walkers and anyone else who wants to participate. Taking the couch to 5K concept literally, there will also be an actual couch race with teams vying for the winning prize. Beginning right after the 5K is over, the couch race consists of teams putting wheels on couches, the lightest competitors riding the couch, and the strongest pushing them to victory. This hilarious event is always a crowd favorite.

Leadership is more effective when leaders ask thoughtfully-crafted, strategically-positioned and well-timed questions. These types of questions engage people, show that you value people, get people to develop their own creative solutions, and create a learning environment. In this program, participants will learn to engage followers and be a more effective leader by learning about and practicing the art of leading using questions.

“Green Art, Red Wine”; the Broken Arrow Arts Council’s spring ‘Art After Hours’ event, has an amazing concept this year! Do these pieces of art really rate an art show and are they really worth the purchase? Make plans to stop by and see for yourself. “Green Art, Red Wine” will include artists that create sculpture, ceramics, pottery, assemblages, wall art, and other types of artwork constructed from found objects. This theme solicits artwork made with common items that you would normally think to discard. Recycled art is something that is beautiful, unique and/or timeless… it just happens to be created with junk. This event is set for April 7th, 2016 from 5:30 to 8:30pm at Your Design located at 211 S. Main St.; in the heart of the Rose District. The spring ‘Art After Hours’ event will be sponsored by Arrow Group, Brown Kinion CPA and Your Design. It will showcase a greater number of artists than has been featured before and will have an extremely diverse collection of artwork for sell and to view. Art After Hours has been a Broken Arrow Arts Council sponsored event for more than a decade. It allows people to experience a wide variety of visual art, music and poetry created by local artists for little to no cost. Through these events, the BA Arts Council provides a place to connect people in our community and honors the goal to introduce the arts to as many people as possible in a familiar setting. There will be live music, delicious food and tasty wine provided for this event. As an added attraction, the unusual and bold living art created by ‘Exposed Courage’ will be available to interact with and view. This show and sale is free and open to the public.

Mom will love all the beautiful and practical gardening items you will find at our festival. In addition, to plants and garden art, you will also find jewelry and other gift items for Mom. Come hungry and thirsty and try some of the Amish baked goods, iced tea and lemonade. While you are there be sure to drop by the Welcome Booth. At the Welcome Booth you will be able to buy raffle tickets and talk to a Master Gardener about your gardening questions. The raffle will feature several prizes including a grill from Lowe’s and gift cards from local businesses and restaurants. The festival is a free family event with entertainment from several local schools. Proceeds from the Festival provide an annual $1,000 scholarship to an Owasso senior high student and beautification projects for the City of Owasso. This year we are planning on the sponsorship of an Up with Trees site. If you would like to sponsor the Garden Club or become a vendor at the Festival, visit our website or email us.

This highly interactive and engaging seminar explores the challenges of managing employees who are geographically dispersed. Typically, geographically dispersed employees do not go through the four stages of group development (Forming, Storming, Norming, and Performing) that are critical for high performance. Consequently, dispersed employees are often characterized by lower levels of engagement, commitment, and loyalty. In the absence of co-location, other managerial interventions become critical. This seminar underscores the importance of goal specificity, immediate feedback, virtual interactions, 360 evaluations, communications, and contingent rewards to virtual management.

Camp Bandage is an opportunity for professionals to donate their time and knowledge to teach children and adults of our community how to save lives and live safely. Dr and Mrs. A.L. Gerner started Camp Bandage in 1983 and held it annually for many, many years at their ranch in Broken Arrow. At Camp Bandage, you learn what to do at the scene of all kinds of accidents until emergency help arrives. You can watch, and also participate, as the professionals render emergency care to the various types of “injuries”. You will see “victims” of “serious” auto collisions, motor cycle accidents, airplane crashes, near drowning’s, snake bites, heart attacks, burns, poisoning, fractures, multiple lacerations and much more. The victims at Camp Bandage appear very realistic. They are “pale, bloody, dirty, and screaming” drama students and volunteers. You will learn, through safety awareness training, how to prevent most of the many injuries commonly seen in the emergency centers. This entire program, which has taught thousands, is made possible by scores of volunteering individuals, agencies and groups who donate their time, talents and resources. Virtually, all government and private agencies, throughout eastern Oklahoma, that deal with medical emergencies and safety training, participate with their equipment, such as fire trucks, ambulances, police cars, medical helicopters, civil defense units and more! The program is free to the public. It is very practical, educational and exciting for the entire family!

Among them are risk-takers like Frank Sinatra who, for better or worse, changed history. Why was the swing era such a prodigious time for Sinatra and others? Who were the maddest men? Too often employees have entirely different goals than the owners or even management of the companies for which they work. For example, a customer picks up his dry cleaning from the laundry and asks the employee, how her day was going. The employee replies, “Great! It’s been really slow!” One wonders if the owners would think that their business being “really slow” was so great. When employees and managers/owners have goals that are too far apart, it can lead to stress and conflict on the parts of both the employees and management. When management/owners and employees are pulling in different directions, it results in less than optimal results for the organization and lower employee satisfaction. This is a common but solvable problem for managers. In this program, you will develop a better understanding of why employees and managers/owners may have different goals and priorities, how to better align the interests of the employees with the goals of the organization, and how to attract the right employees and motivate them to better assist the organization reach its goals.

Forever Plaid by Stuart Ross is a musical revue of songs popularized by close-harmony "guy groups,” such as The Four Aces and The Four Freshmen, in the 1950s. Personifying the clean-cut genre in this show are The Plaids, whose dreams of recording an album ended when their vehicle collided with a bus full of Catholic schoolgirls on their way to see The Beatles on The Ed Sullivan Show. The play begins with The Plaids returning from the afterlife for one final chance at musical glory. Tulsa-area native Will Rogers was a multimedia star like no other before or since. A cowboy with a folksy sense of humor and mad rope-trick skills, he found success as a vaudeville performer, newspaper columnist, radio host, and stage and screen actor. He was the leading political wit and highest paid Hollywood movie star of his time. "The Will Rogers Follies" tells the story of his amazing life (1879-1935) in a series of Ziegfeld Follies-style song-and-dance numbers. With a book by Peter Stone, music by Cy Coleman, and lyrics by Betty Comden and Adolph Green, the show won six 1991 Tony Awards, including Best Musical and Best Original Score. Mitch Adams and Cathy Rose star as Will and Betty Rogers in this production.

Come celebrate 25 years of serving families in need at the Ronald McDonald House of Tulsa at the 2016 McDazzle Fun Ball! This year’s McDazzle will honor Phyllis and George Dotson, two devoted and generous hearts who – from the very beginning – have helped the Ronald McDonald House of Tulsa become a place of healing and strength. The continued support of Phyllis and George and the rest of our Oklahoma community have enabled us to keep our doors and our hearts open for a quarter of a century!
The first collaboration between composer Richard Rodgers and librettist Oscar Hammerstein II remains, in many ways, their most innovative. It was one of the first Broadway musicals to fully integrate song-and-dance numbers — including “Oh, What a Beautiful Mornin’,” “People Will Say We’re In Love” and the rip-roaring “Oklahoma!” — into the story. Set in Indian Territory just after the turn of the 20th century, the high-spirited rivalry between local farmers and cowboys provides a colorful background against which Curly (Sam Briggs), a handsome cowboy, tries to win the heart of Laurey (Ruby Shadley), a winsome farm girl. With these two headstrong romantics holding the reins, their courtship is as bumpy as a surrey ride down a country road, but the appeal of a brand-new life together in a brand-new state proves irresistible. Winner of eight 2012 Tony Awards, including Best Musical, ONCE is a truly original Broadway experience. Featuring an impressive ensemble of actor/musicians who play their own instruments onstage, it tells the story of a Dublin street musician who’s about to give up on his dream when a sensitive young woman takes a sudden interest in his haunting love songs. Based on the critically acclaimed 2007 film starring Glen Hansard and Markéta Irglová, ONCE incorporates the music and lyrics the duo wrote and performed in the movie, including the Academy Award-winning song “Falling Slowly.”

The film that gave the world one of its greatest movie heroes, Indiana Jones, is back and better than ever before! Relive the magic on the silver screen with the original great adventure...Raiders of the Lost Ark...with John Williams' epic score performed live to picture by a full symphony orchestra! The year is 1936, and professor of archeology and "obtainer of rare antiquities" Indiana Jones (Harrison Ford) is tasked by U.S. Army Intelligence to recover the legendary Ark of the Covenant before it falls into the hands of the Nazis. Indy's quest takes him to Nepal and Egypt, reuniting him with an old friend (John Rhys-Davies), an old foe (Paul Freeman), and an ex-flame (Karen Allen) who falls somewhere in between. Armed with his hat, whip and wits, our intrepid hero must face formidable enemies - and impossible odds - to save the day and the world. She’s dazzled audiences and critics alike in the most recent revivals of South Pacific, The Pajama Game, and The King and I. Now this Tony Award winner comes to the Choregus Productions stage for an intimate recital. A native of Oklahoma, O’Hara received a degree in opera and, after winning the State Metropolitan Opera Competition, moved to New York where she soon made her Broadway debut in Jekyll & Hyde and followed it with Sondheim’s Follies, Dracula, and Sweet Smell of Success (opposite John Lithgow). In 2005 O’Hara starred in The Light in the Piazza at Lincoln Center, earning her Tony and Drama Desk Award nominations. She moved from one critical and commercial success to another when she joined Harry Connick Jr. on Broadway in the 2006 Tony Award-winning production of The Pajama Game, for which she received Tony, Drama Desk, and Outer Critics Award nominations. Kelli O’Hara has unequivocally established herself as one of Broadway’s great leading ladies. Her portrayal of Anna Leonowens in the critically acclaimed Lincoln Center Theatre revival of The King and I recently garnered her a 2015 Tony Award for Best Leading Actress in a Musical, along with Drama League and Outer Critics nominations. Last year, Kelli made her Metropolitan Opera debut in the production of The Merry Widow with Renée Fleming. "One of our greatest reinterpreters of musical standards." Ben Brantley, New York Times
