Free RoCo Fit Couch to 5k Program

Experienced mentors will guide participants through 12 weeks of progressive walk or walk/run workouts designed to help them finish a 5k Mock race. Professionals will educate on form, injury prevention, core strength, nutrition, and safety. RoCo Fit is free of charge to anyone 13 years old or older and live, work, play, or learn in Rogers County. Twice a week mentored workouts at Claremore Lake, weekly educational emails, and professional presentations all included in program. First and last workouts are a pre/post-mile and are held at Claremore High School Track - all other workouts are at Claremore Lake. Ending with a Mock 5k at Claremore Lake on June 8th.

Through simple, graceful movements that are easy to learn, Tai Chi builds physical stamina, improves one’s balance, muscular strength, postural control, self-confidence, memory, and reduces the likelihood of falling. The Eight Tai Chi Quan forms taught are adapted from 24 Simplified Forms of Tai Chi. According to CDC, Tai Chi Quan, if practiced regularly, is proven to reduce the risk of falls by 55%. Tai Chi Quan is a FREE 10-12 week program offered to anyone interested in improving their balance.

Community BUNCO Bash

Set for Friday, May 5th, the Center's BUNCO Bash events have historically drawn a crowd. Tickets can b purchased in advance for $10 and $12 at the door. Those attending will enjoy dinner at 6:00 p.m. with dinner at 7:00 p.m.
Oklahoma Steam Threshing & Gas Engine Association Annual Show

Be sure and make time this spring to visit Pawnee and help us kick off the second fifty years of the Oklahoma Steam Threshing and Gas Engine Show. Our steam engine display area, as well as the working steam powered exhibits, are always very popular and this year should be no exception. Our featured steam engine will be the 20 Horsepower Keck Gonnerman. In a break from traditionally naming a brand of gas tractor, the “Feature Gas Tractor” will be all steel wheel tractors. This will mean that most of the featured tractors will be pre-1930. Not to be outdone, the “Feature Gas Engine” will be the Maytag line of equipment. Many folks don’t realize that the grandmother to their utility room washer was a gasoline powered work horse that also could churn butter as well as grind meat and make sausage. These features will make for an exciting look at farm life in the first half of the 20th century. As always, there will be 15 to 20 steam traction engines (steam tractors) operating “era correct” machines. Probably the most popular of these is our steam powered saw mill that operates almost nonstop during show hours. This exhibit is complemented by a cedar shingle cutting machine, a woodshop planer and other assorted timber/lumber related machines. Another crowd pleaser is our blacksmith shop, where tools and household items are hand forged from raw steel. Also, we have an early 1900s machine shop, showing how metal working machines similar to today’s were powered by steam engines. In our “Domestic Display”, located in our headquarters building, you will see displays of the items of everyday life used up until around the end of WWII. This is our newest feature and generates a lot of nostalgic thoughts for rural folks, as well as wonder from the younger more urban groups. We also host a flea market, arts and craft area, and a hobby related swap meet. The fun doesn’t stop at dusk. On Friday and Saturday evening (weather permitting) the steam engines put on a “spark show” shooting glowing cinders 50 to 60 feet into the air. As is the tradition with most shows of this type, there will be a bean and cornbread dinner for vendors and exhibitors on Thursday evening. Camping (for exhibitors) is available on the grounds. Hookups are $10 per night for water and electric and $5 for primitive. There is a dump station on the grounds. Spectator and overflow camping is available a short distance away at Pawnee Lake, also for a fee. (50 amp hookups at lake only) Come see us again, or for the very first time, and don’t let the weather bother you. The show goes on rain or shine, with many inside exhibits. Citizens’ Climate Lobby offering Climate Advocate Training workshop May 6, 2017 in Tulsa, OK Tulsa, OK, April 5, 2017 – The Tulsa Chapter of Citizens’ Climate Lobby is offering a Climate Advocate Training workshop on May 6, 2017 at Rudisill Regional Library. The session is free and will teach citizens the nuts and bolts of building political will and affecting change in positive, constructive ways. Citizens’ Climate Lobby (CCL) has a unique approach of achieving change through building positive, respectful relationships with lawmakers and focusing on specific market-based, consumer-friendly solutions that have received support from conservatives and liberals alike. The workshop will include a mini-lobbying training. Citizens’ Climate Lobby is non-partisan and has an active and growing Conservative Caucus. We are very interested in new conservative members who are concerned about protecting our families and communities from the costs and risks of extreme weather. “Citizens’ Climate Lobby members here in Tulsa and all over the country are telling us that their lives have changed since they have become involved with CCL, “says Leah Sutton, the group leader of the Tulsa chapter. “They tell us they were worried about climate change and were looking for a way to make a difference. They are so grateful that CCL is showing them how and that there is a group of wonderful people working together for the same goal. Foster Care Informational Meeting

There are about 10,000 children in Oklahoma’s foster care system. On any given day there are 150 children in need of a foster home, which has yet to be found. When a foster home is not available, these children stay in county shelters. In response to the lawsuit that was brought against DHS, the use of county shelters is being phased out. This has created an urgent need for more foster homes in Oklahoma. Circle of Care works to recruit, train, and provide ongoing support to foster parents. We have a contract through DHS to provide these services anywhere in the state.

Cowboy Trader Days

Music, vendors and activities for the kids are on the program for Cowboy Trader Days Saturday, May 27, at the Will Rogers Memorial Museum. Western wear, tack, art, books and special kids’ programs will dot the hillside of the Museum from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., Ivan Pace, Museum Roper (docent) and old west re-enactor, said. Some vendors may be setting up on Friday so there is an opportunity for an early visit and shopping. Admission to Trader Days activities are free to the public. The Museum is open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the regular admission fee. Route 66 PatriotFest . . . A patriotic family day

Saturday, May 27, is a day to honor and celebrate our veterans and active military and have Tulsa known as "America's Most Patriotic City." Festival grounds cover Historic Route 66 (Southwest Boulevard) between Union and 39th Street and the Historical Route 66 Village (train depot and derrick). There will be a KidZone, Patriotic Pet contest, Pin-Up Gal contest, military displays, a car and motorcycle show with judging. Vendor booths and food trucks will be on-site. There will be a vehicle cruise on Route 66 from East Central High School to Historic Red Fork on Southwest Boulevard.
