Free RoCo Fit Couch to 5k Program
Every Tuesday & Thursday | 6 - 7 p.m.

Experienced mentors will guide participants through 12 weeks of progressive walk or walk/run workouts designed to help them finish a 5k Mock race. Professionals will educate on form, injury prevention, core strength, nutrition, and safety. RoCo Fit is free of charge to anyone 13 years old or older and live, work, play, or learn in Rogers County. Twice a week mentored workouts at Claremore Lake, weekly educational emails, and professional presentations all included in program. First and last workouts are a pre/post-mile and are held at Claremore High School Track - all other workouts are at Claremore Lake. Ending with a Mock 5k at Claremore Lake on June 8th.

Combining mediums and inspiration from all areas of pop culture and beyond, Broc Randall has been honing his artistic craft for almost two decades. His latest show, “Art By Broc,” will be in the PAC Gallery during the month of June.
He received his bachelor of arts in graphic design from Northeastern State University in Tahlequah before relocating to Little Rock, Arkansas, to work for Dillards corporation. While employed there as a web designer for almost four years, he began creating mixed-media art pieces that incorporated everyday objects.
Randall returned to the Tulsa area in 2006 as the webmaster for the University of Tulsa. His seven-year stint with the university led him into more digital art and imagery as well as continued work on his mixed media projects.
Currently he is the owner/operator of SignBull and serves as the director of the Tulsa Geoscience Center in downtown Tulsa.

2017 OK Mozart International Music Festival

Tulsa Symphony Orchestra (TSO) and Tulsa Children’s Chorus will premiere a new orchestral work by Jerod Impichchaachaaha' Tate, Chickasaw classical composer, on Sunday, June 11 at the 2017 OK Mozart International Music Festival. The foundation of the newly commissioned piece titled Muscogee Hymn Suite, is from within historic Creek Indian church hymns. Muscogee Hymn Suite is an adaptation and orchestration of traditional Muscogee (Creek) church hymns in the Muscogee (Creek) language. Joining TSO and Tulsa Children’s Chorus will be classical baritone soloist Grant Youngblood and traditional Mvskoke singer Curtis Scott, conducted by Gerhardt Zimmermann. A unique artistic result of European contact is the American Indian church hymn. As missionaries traveled across the early United States into Indian Country, they became one of the first to document Native languages and create translations of the Bible and other Christian texts, including church hymns. This blending of music and language lead to a new series of a hybrid music, composed by tribal citizens. For Southeast American Indians (Choctaw, Chickasaw, Cherokee, Creek and Seminole) this beloved hybrid‐style of music is now more than 200 years old with a vast repertoire. American Indian church hymns are unmistakably native and is the third category of traditional Southeast American Indian music, alongside stomp dancing and timeworn folk songs.

Tuesdays in the Park: Starr Fisher Ensemble

Each Tuesday evening in June a musical performance is presented on an outdoor stage in Broken Arrow’s Central Park. The grassy slope of the park provides an excellent amphitheater for the crowds relaxing and listening...and often dancing. Tuesdays in the Park is free to attend and appropriate for families. Music lovers have been encouraged to bring blankets or folding chairs along with their picnics. This year’s food vendors include Broken Arrow Civitans famous hamburgers, Stu-B- Que and Kona Ice. Music is selected for variety of style and presentation talent. Local musical groups are eager to play one of the Tuesday evening concerts. Creek County Literacy Program Offers Free Tutor Training Workshop to Adult Volunteers

Help Teach An Adult to Read. Become a Volunteer Literacy Tutor. Adult literacy volunteers are needed to help Creek County area adults improve reading, writing and basic math skills. Seventeen percent of adults in Creek County 18 to 24 years old do not have a high school diploma. Eleven percent of adults in Creek County 25 years of age and older do not have a high school diploma. Twelve percent of Oklahoma adults – more than 400,000 – are functionally illiterate. Creek County Literacy Program is a non-profit organization that trains adults to become volunteer literacy tutors, and then matches those tutors with adult learners. To become a tutor, individuals must attend Creek County Literacy Program’s free one-day Tutor Training workshop. Knowledge of another language is not necessary and no prior teaching experience is required. This workshop is scheduled for Thursday, June 22, 2017 from 9am to 4pm at Creek County Literacy Program, 15 North Poplar Street in Sapulpa. Lunch is provided. The presenter, Donna Hall, received her Master’s in Reading from Northeastern State University. Hall is a Certified Reading Specialist as well as a National Board certified teacher in Early Childhood Education. She taught in the elementary school setting for over 20 years, teaching second grade at Edison Elementary School in Bristow. For two years Hall served as a REAC3H Instructional Coach, providing training and assistance to 14 school districts. She has also completed the requirements to present innovative strategies for Oklahoma literacy instruction as an Open Minds trainer, sponsored by the Literacy Resource Office of Oklahoma Department of Libraries. How to Stay Young the First 100 Years

Join Creek County Literacy Program and Sapulpa Chiropractic on Thursday, June 27 at 5:30pm for a free, informative workshop entitled “How to Stay Young the First 100 Years”. The workshop is open to the public. During the workshop, Sapulpa Chiropractic’s Practice Representative Myeesha Hicks will teach participants tips on How to Stay Young the First 100 Years. “You are invited to learn the secret to not only extending your lifespan, but increasing your quality of life,” shares Hicks. A number of topics will be covered, including how to increase your quality of life, extend your lifespan, and heal without drugs. 2017 Bixby Freedom Celebration

The Bixby Freedom Celebration is the largest free, public fireworks extravaganza in this area. In it’s second year the 2016 Bixby Freedom Celebration brought approximately 13,000 people from our local community together in patriotic celebration, with thousands more gathered nearby to watch the spectacular, professional fireworks display.
