Oklahoma is known for many things and the annual Black Gold Days Festival in Glenpool celebrates the city’s rich oil history beginning June 18 and continuing through Sunday, June 21, with a full slate of family-oriented activities.

And with an expected turnout of 17,000 to 20,000, the 37th edition reinforces its history of providing top musical talent for the pleasure of those attending the festival.  This year is Corey Kent White of neighboring Bixby, who recently competed on the NBC television program, The Voice.

Corey, scheduled for Saturday night’s Entertainment, along with the talented David Dover Band will complete the evening with a taste of Blues, Rock and Country. “You’ll want to bring your dancing partner as local artist Josh Woods  sets the stage Friday evening for a boot-stompin’ time with The Darell Cole Band,” says Glenpool Chamber President Amy T. Rogers.  “Also scheduled is the popular Tulsa Fuzed Band, known for their music that spans from the 70’s to current, will ignite the stage Thursday evening,” she adds.

Corey Kent White is many things. He’s an artist, a songwriter, a hard worker and attends Oklahoma State University.  White has put in thousands of hours as a writer and performer. In fact, White’s performances and original songs have already captivated audiences of all sizes throughout the United States.  More than ten years ago, the Bixby native started his music career on a lonely stage at the Tulsa State Fair.

Although it was just him and his guitar, Corey’s talent and professionalism shone through and impressed the manager of a Western Swing band called Oklahoma Stomp. White’s first appearance quickly turned into a five-year gig touring with this group that opened for well-known acts like the Oak Ridge Boys and played famous stages like the Kennedy Center in Washington, DC.  White has already experienced extraordinary success, having shared the stage with country music icon Willie Nelson, Toby Keith, Luke Bryan, Shooter Jennings, and Big and Rich.

And now you can see the 19-year-old singer/songwriter in person in a free performance at the Glenpool Black Gold Days festival.

Black Gold Days is sponsored by the Glenpool Chamber of Commerce. It is the largest event of the year for Glenpool, Oklahoma.

Rogers said Black Gold Days will feature everything from bluegrass and gospel, to rock and country.  “You can fill up at the Lion’s Club pancake breakfast Saturday morning.  Bring the kids to this annual event in Glenpool and enjoy a frog jump, turtle races, the Optimists horseshoe tournament and a variety of children’s activities.

“And for those who love a parade don’t miss ours Saturday morning and browse through endless craft and vendor booths situated throughout the festival grounds.  Our food vendors will provide a wide variety of food if you get hungry, including Gator Bites, Twister Cones, turkey legs, Pineapple Whip, barbecue sandwiches and more. “

The festival will be located at Black Gold Park, near 141st Street along U.S. 75. Wristbands will go on sale June 10 through June 19 at local banks (BancFirst, Mabrey Bank, and American Heritage Bank) in Glenpool as well as through the Glenpool Chamber of Commerce for $20, normally priced at the carnival for $25.
