Nearly 150 senior all star athletes from approximately 27 area schools have been nominated by their high school coaches for participation in the 2015 Green Country All Star Games. Softball, baseball and basketball games will return on May 29 to Catoosa Public Schools and will be hosted by Volunteers for Youth.

The softball game will begin at 10 a.m., baseball starts at 1 p.m., and the girls’ basketball tips off at 6:30 p.m., to be immediately followed by the boys’ basketball game. All Star cheerleaders will cheer and perform at the basketball games. In the event of rain, softball and baseball will be played on Sunday, May 31.

Tickets may be purchased from participating athletes or at the gate for all events. Tickets for the events are $5 for adults and youth for all sports. Children 12 and under are admitted free to any event with a paid adult.

The Green Country All Star event allows senior athletes from area high schools an opportunity to showcase their talent to family, friends, and college coaches. It is a unique opportunity for them to compete with and against the elite senior players from the area. The athletes get the opportunity to close their high school careers in high-profile competition.

The Green Country All Star event provides Volunteers for Youth the ability to continue serving Rogers County at-risk youth through mentoring, after school programming, a classroom setting for students on long-term suspension, and an alternative to juvenile court for appropriate first-time offenders. This will be the 14th year that Volunteers for Youth has offered this opportunity to Green Country area senior athletes.

And if you don’t get enough sports that weekend, Volunteers for Youth will also have Serve for Youth. If you enjoy tennis at any level, consider playing in the sixth annual Serve for Youth tennis tournament in Claremore Friday, May 29 through Sunday, May 31. In 2010, a well known Claremore tennis player and local tennis coordinator, Dian Russell, passed away. Many of her family and friends gathered together to play tennis in her honor and raise money to benefit Volunteers for Youth.

This tournament is a doubles-only tournament held at the Claremore High School tennis courts located at 1410 E. Stuart Roosa. There are women’s, men’s and mixed doubles draws. Cost is $25 a person or $50 for a doubles team, with proceeds benefiting Volunteers for Youth. Winners will be awarded a Serve for Youth champion towel.

Don’t have a doubles partner? No problem! We’ll do our best to pair participants for the tournament. Ready to sign up? Go to www.volunteersforyouth.com/events/serve-for-youth and click on the link for the entry form. Players under 18 may play with a parent’s consent.
