LaRae Seay (Arby) and Sherry Whisman (Clara) will perform in Owasso Community Theatre Company’s “Spirit!” February 19-21 in Owasso. This show is the beginning of OCTC’s 11th season.

Owasso Community Theatre Company (OCTC) presents “Spirit!” by Peg Kehret at 7 p.m. February 19-21 on Stone Canyon Elementary’s stage at 7305 N. 177th E. Ave. in Owasso. Make plans to attend the opening show of OCTC’s 11th year of live theatre!
This heart-warming story brings together Arby, a young nursing home aide, and a variety of delightful Happy Hollow residents for some antics you wouldn’t expect. Clara, an 83-year-old author, begins taking hula lessons at Happy Hollow and sending out for pepperoni pizza, which overjoys the other residents. The manager, on the other hand, wants the poker to stop and order to return to Happy Hollow.
LaRae Seay will portray Arby, the young aide. She has more than 10 years of experience from theaters in Arkansas and Ohio, and “Spirit!” will be her first show with OCTC.
“I love coming together to create something unique to share with an audience,” said Seay. “I love the thoughts and conversations that lead to creating characters with real relationships in real situations. And when it all comes together, you can feel the energy between the audience and the actors – there’s just nothing like it!”
The story takes place in Clara’s room and is an uplifting story of aging and friendship most viewers can relate to. From the hilarious game of cards to the touching final scene, this play offers charm, humor, and insight for viewers of all ages.
Jerry Sparkman will play Joe Johnston, a resident at Happy Hollow. This is his fourth show with OCTC. “This show teaches us that people in nursing homes can still be active and have full lives without the typical stereotypes,” said Sparkman.
Sally Allen, a founding member of OCTC, will play Clara’s attorney, Frances Wells. Allen says people should come out and celebrate OCTC’s 11th season. “This show is too much fun! I love the ensemble of a small cast,” said Allen.
Get advanced $8 tickets at www.octok.org. Three performances will be held February 19-21 at 7 p.m., with a 2 p.m. matinee on Saturday. Tickets at the door will be $12 for adults, $10 for seniors (age 55+) and students.
Interested in performing? Auditions for OCTC’s April production of “Our Miss Brooks” will be Saturday, February 21 at 2 p.m. and Monday, February 23 at 6:30 p.m. No experience is necessary, but you must be at least 15 to audition.
