Kate, Sally, Hazel and Darryl invite you to the Route 66 Pecan & Fun Fest.

Load up your automobile and head to The Nut House on historic Route 66 for a day of family-friendly activities and products on October 25 at the 6th annual Route 66 Pecan & Fun Fest. Beginning at 9 a.m. and running until 6 p.m., the event offers a vast array of indoor and outdoor booths selling crafts, toys, books, handmade blankets, breads and other goodies as well as Amish-made jerky. “We usually have around 30 booths,” says Hazel Ward, owner.
In addition to the booths, attendees can browse through the unique items – most not found in your local grocery or big-box store – inside The Nut House, where new fall products will be available, as well as new crop of pecans. “We’ll also have our famous Nut House cookies for sale,” she adds. “They contain real butter, corn flakes, oatmeal, coconut, chocolate chips and pecans – just about everything but the kitchen sink.”
For kids, there will be a farm animal petting zoo, camel rides and a kiddie train. New additions this year includes pony rides. “It’s a wonderful time for families to get out and enjoy a beautiful fall day full of fun activities,” Hazel adds.
Other planned activities include face painting as well as pumpkin painting. “Since it’s the week before Halloween, we’re also sponsoring a costume contest for children, ages one through 13,” says Darryl Ward, owner. Prizes will also be awarded in the costume contest.
While the Hot Mama Deli will also be open inside The Nut House, there will be a variety of food vendors on site, including a barbecue smoker selling fresh barbecue. “Although there is no barbeque competition, this group has participated in cooking contests before,” Darryl adds.
From 10 a.m. to noon and 2 to 4 p.m., local musicians will also be performing on an outdoor stage. In addition, event-goers and auto enthusiasts can check out the classic cars that will be on display. “We always have a good turnout,” says Hazel. And, adds her husband, “There is no admission or parking fees.”
Event sponsors include Suburban Chevrolet, T&G Power Equipment, BancFirst, Bank of Commerce and Champion Refuse, Inc. “These sponsors make it possible for us to host this event,” says Darryl. “They’ve been very supportive and we ask people to use their services if they can and have a need for them.”
The Nut House is also pleased to help support the local chapter of the Blue Star Mothers, who will be at the festival collecting items to assemble freedom boxes to be sent overseas. A complete list of items requested can be found on the soldier’s wish list at the organization’s website, www.rogerscountybluestarmothers.com.
If you’re interested in reserving a 10x10 booth, the deadline is October 18. You can download a vendor application at www.66nuts.com.
