Memorable wines, soft moonlight and the fragrance of roses combine to create a magical experience at Tulsa Garden Center’s An Evening of Wine & Roses on Friday, September 26, 2014 from 7 to 9:30 p.m., in the Tulsa Municipal Rose Garden.
An Evening of Wine & Roses is one of the area’s oldest and largest wine tasting events. Guests will enjoy over 180 different wines from around the world complemented by delicious hors d’oeuvres and desserts from Tulsa’s top restaurants and caterers. The combination of delectable food and exquisite wine enjoyed under the stars, while strolling through a beautiful garden of roses, makes this an enchanting autumn evening. Tickets are $65 for Tulsa Garden Center members and $80 for non-members.
According to Daisi Owens, Tulsa Garden Center board member, if you’re under the impression you don’t fit the demographic, personality or age group that would enjoy a wine tasting event, think again. “Some people may feel as though they would be uncomfortable, out of place, or simply not enjoy themselves, but trust me – it is so much fun! I went last year with a group of friends and we all had a wonderful time.”
Board Member Andy Zanovich agrees, adding, “Not only is it an entertaining, whimsical, laidback evening for adults of all ages, but the ticket price is not intimidating. The amount of food, drink and fun you get for the price is certainly worth it, and at the same time, you are supporting a wonderful resource in our community.”
Tulsa Garden Center is a nonprofit with the goal to provide education on environmental and gardening issues. Mike Blake, Education and Marketing Manager, explains that this event is the economic engine that fuels the Tulsa Garden Center’s activities, including operation of the free Linnaeus Teaching Garden, ran solely by volunteers; ongoing classes for adults and children; and the “Brown Bag” lecture series. The Tulsa Garden Center is able to offer these educational opportunities at little or no cost with funds raised through An Evening of Wine & Roses. “We are excited to see more and more young families interested in the Tulsa Garden Center. We want people to know that this is a resource for the entire family – this is your garden center.”
Prior to the main event, a private Premier Tasting will be held in the Tulsa Garden Center Mansion from 6 to 7:30 pm. Guests will savor wines from premium vintners and delicious fare from Tulsa’s top chefs. Individual premier level tickets are $130 or 10 tickets for $1,100. A private table for 10 guests can be reserved for $1,600. The main event begins at 7 p.m. in the Municipal Rose Garden, which is included in the cost of the premier tickets.
“One thing I love about Wine & Roses is being able to try out great new restaurants,” says Daisi. This year’s event will feature more than 40 restaurants serving up a wide variety of cuisines including Bodean Seafood, Fleming’s Steakhouse, KEO Asian Cuisine, Maxxwell’s Restaurant, Old School Bagel, The Bistro at Seville, The French Hen, Waterfront Grill and many more.
The atmosphere will be highlighted by a deejay playing easy listening music throughout the evening. Guests may purchase a rose for $20 from one of the “Rose Babes” to receive the chance to win a $3,000 gift certificate to Moody’s Jewelry. A photo booth with a variety of props will be on hand so guests may take home a fun party favor. The wine pull returns this year, and new to the event will be a restaurant pull. Attendees may purchase a wine pull ticket or a restaurant certificate for $20 and “pull” from wine bottles and certificates that are worth $20 and up.
Free valet parking will be available, and An Evening of Wine & Roses will culminate in a fireworks display at the close of the event.
Event sponsors are B & B Liquor Warehouse, TulsaPeople Magazine, and Moody’s. Reservations are required for this popular event, and space is limited. The reservation deadline is September 19, so call soon!
