Dell Davis, Democrat, seeks position of District 3 Rogers County Commissioner.

When the votes for District 3 are counted in November, Dell Davis is hoping to become the second woman ever to be a county commissioner in Rogers County. However, Davis, a 41-year Rogers County resident, said her campaign is about much more than being a woman commissioner.

“At the March Chamber Luncheon, it was noted that the majority of county offices would most likely be filled by unopposed candidates or decided in the primary. That definitely gained my attention. It concerned me,” Davis said. “Nearly half of Rogers County voters, based alone on party designation, would not have a say-so in who would be their next county commissioner. My heart and my head told me it was time to take action, to get off the sidelines. It’s as simple as that.”

Davis continued, “I prayed about it. I talked to my husband about it. And, I went to the election board and filed for the office. I’ve always believed that if you see a problem, and you have something to offer, you should become involved and be a part of the solution.”

Davis, a registered Democrat, says a quote from President Kennedy sums up her approach to all things political: “Let us not seek the Republican answer or the Democrat answer – but the right answer. Let us not seek to fix the blame for the past. Let us accept our own responsibility for the future.”

“My career has been very rewarding. I’ve had the opportunity to work with great teams who have made a difference. I would be honored to work alongside anyone, regardless of party affiliation, who wants to see Rogers County continue to grow, numerically, economically and with the best quality of life possible for all residents.

“I can and I will put the taxpayers’ interests first in every decision. I am qualified, willing and able to make the hard decisions when it comes to budgets, finances and employees. And, I am willing to and have experience in reaching out to encourage and build partnerships with entities at all levels: cities, co mmunities, and other county and state leaders as needed.”

Davis encourages voters of District 3 to not be sidetracked by the negativity surrounding county government or stereotypes. “Yes, building and maintaining quality roads and bridges is front and center in the commissioner’s $30 million plus budgets. And yes, most county commissioners currently serving are men. But, the bigger picture is that coordinating, financing and building transportation infrastructure is key to our county’s economic development. The next commissioner must not only be a good business manager and supervisor, but also be an ambassador for Rogers County. Commissioners serve on local, regional and state boards and authorities, interact with other elected officials, implement legal purchasing policies, and hire and supervise road and bridge maintenance professionals.

“It’s important to consider all those factors when making this year’s District 3 Commissioner choice,” Davis said. “The scope of the office has changed tremendously in the last 30 years, but the mission is the same: to serve and to lead the county into the future.”

Davis is married to Mike, an American Airlines crew chief. They have three children, five grandchildren and a dog. You can find her on Facebook by searching DellDavis4ROCO.
