Walk through the doors of Homeward Bound and browse awhile. You might just be surprised by the eclectic and fun mixture of items available to appeal to different tastes and different pocketbooks. And, if you’re savvy enough – or even need assistance from the owners – you could probably furnish an entire house with the treasures you’ll find at this Main Street Claremore business.

Martin and Nancy James purchased, renovated and set up shop in this 5,000-square-foot historical building eight years ago. While they had (and still do have) an online business, the idea of having a real storefront was appealing to the couple, who moved here from California in 1996. “When I thought about setting up a real store here in Claremore, I was excited,” says Nancy. “It is just awesome.”

Awesome is a word many might use to describe the variety of merchandise you’ll find throughout their store. “While we specialize in furniture and home furnishings,” says Nancy, “we have a mixture of all kinds of things.” Those things include rugs, couches, chairs and desks, and just about everything in-between. “We also have booths with vendors offering everything from a $5 china cup and saucer to a high-end lamp,” she adds. “It’s just really all over the place – meaning you never know what you’ll find. You can pick up quality furnishings at a fantastic price.”

Part of the store is also dedicated to new merchandise, including bedding and tabletop and window coverings. Offering brands like VHC, formerly known as Victorian Heart, and C&F, shoppers can find entire bedding sets in all sizes as well as placemats, tablecloths and table runners. Most are 100 percent cotton. Other items are made of burlap or jute. And, if you can’t find the exact color or pattern in stock, you can browse through catalogs and fabric swatches to select the one that best meets your needs. “Customers are also welcome to take home swatches to see if the color matches their décor. We can order and ship to customers at no cost if we don’t have in stock what they want.”

Homeward Bound also offers customers the opportunity to borrow a pillow or other home décor item to see if it fits with their decorating style and color scheme. “When you can physically see something together, it makes it easier to decide,” she adds, “and it’s better than ordering something online and having to return it if it doesn’t fit your needs.”

Nancy offers her assistance to those who need help coordinating and making decisions about their home décor. “We’re always happy to spend time with our customers, whether it’s choosing bedding, furniture or other items to furnish or update their homes.”

Homeward Bound offers booth rental as well as consignments. You can drop off your items, such as nicer pieces of furniture, at no charge. “We don’t take a percentage unless it sells,” she adds.
Nancy is passionate about Main Street Claremore. “It’s not just our store. We have a street full of wonderful stores – clothing boutiques, antique stores, an art gallery and thrift stores – making it worthwhile for a day trip to our town. It’s a great destination and a fun place to spend the day. We have awesome and unique restaurants nearby as well, including The Pink House and the Belvidere Mansion.”

But out-of-town shoppers aren’t the only ones she encourages to shop in Claremore. With its treasure trove of great finds on Main Street, Nancy says, “You don’t have to leave here and go to Tulsa to shop. We invite everyone to come in and browse around. You’ll find a gamut of wonderful home decor.”
