Enriching the Catoosa Community

The Friends of Catoosa Library Foundation offers a wealth of resources for the community.

The Friends of the Catoosa Public Library Foundation is committed to upholding the integrity and accessibility of the Catoosa Public Library and enriching the community it serves. They host movie nights in the Catoosa Community Center (across the hall from the library in the library building) at 6:30 p.m. every third Thursday of the month. The movie equipment and popcorn machine were purchased with grant monies awarded by the Cherokee Nation. Movie night popcorn is free. The Friends ­encourage teachers and homeschoolers to ­contact the Foundation if their ­curriculum calls for a ­specific video or movie.

    The Friends also ­sponsor fun classes with different themes throughout the year. This month’s class, “DIY Laundry Detergent Workshop,” will be held September 15 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Community Center. “This will feature demonstrations on how to make non-commercially processed ­detergents and household products,” says Becky Jones, president.

    To raise money for these fun and free ­activities, the foundation hosts various fundraising events. The next one is coming up on Saturday, October 27 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Community Center – the 2nd annual “Whale of a Tale” Arts and Crafts Sale. Vendor applications will be received through October 5. Interested parties should contact them as soon as possible, as booths sell out quickly. The show will also feature a Kid’s Craft Corner. Students and homeschoolers are invited to present their home craft products and student art for sale or display. “We had a great turnout last year, with vendors offering ­custom-made jewelry, doll clothes, candles, tutus, quilts, custom embroidery, face painting, music, home décor, and more.” The Masons will be sponsoring the show this year and have committed to matching all of the funds raised.
