An Evening with Ned Blackhawk

April 1, 2024

Blackhawk’s retelling of U.S. history acknowledges the enduring power, agency, and survival of Indigenous peoples, yielding a truer account of the United States and revealing anew the varied meanings of America. Magic City Book Bash

April 6, 2024 | 10 a.m. - 3 p.m.

We’re thrilled to announce that on Saturday, April 6, we’re collaborating with Downtown Tulsa Partnership to host our first Magic City Book Bash! Beginning with our origins as Booksmart Tulsa, we have made connecting Tulsa readers with authors one of our core missions. And for over a decade we have given a space and a platform to over a thousand authors to share their books with our community. The Magic City Book Bash will be a celebration of the Tulsa literary magic for which we are named. It will be held from 10:00am to 3:00pm along Archer Street between Martin Luther King, Jr., Blvd. and Detroit Avenue. In addition to the bevy of local authors who will be available to meet and sign books, we’ll have presentations throughout the event in our Algonquin Room — including a celebration of Downtown Tulsa Partnership’s 2024 Curbside Haiku winners! This family-friendly event will also include the TCCL Bookmobile (along with a special story time), a DJ, booths from community partners, and more! We’re also excited to have our Archer Street neighbors — Made, Shuffles, and Lone Wolf — joining in the festivities. Continue to check back here for more updates on what you’ll find at our 2024 Book Bash — we can’t wait to celebrate with you!

This production contains some adult language. Grace Stiles, 90-years-old and dying of cancer, has left her hospital bed and has returned to her beloved cottage in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia. It is here that she wants to live out the rest of her days – not in a cold, unfeeling hospital. It all seems like a straightforward final wish – until Gloria Whitmore shows up. Gloria is a Harvard MBA recently transplanted to this rural backwater from New York and is a volunteer from hospice who has been sent to the rustic cabin to take care of Grace during her waning time. Although Grace is 90, she is a formidable barrier to Gloria’s good intentions. The BACP is pleased to welcome back award-winning director Martha Cherbini for this show. Martha has directed several shows at the BACP over the years - perhaps most notably "Gin Game," which she and her cast took to state, national and international theatre contests. Grace and Glorie will be brought to life onstage by Brenda Rowan and Kristin Blue Fisher. For more information and to purchase tickets for Grace & Glorie, please call the BACP at 918-258-0077. Woolly Weekend

April 25-27, 2024 | 10 a.m. - 7 p.m.

Woolly Weekend is a “sheep to shawl” festival held at Shepherd’s Cross, an authentic working sheep farm, just north of Claremore OK on Scenic Route 66. Come to the farm and watch as the sheep are shorn (given a haircut). Sheep shearing occurs throughout the day. After the fiber is shorn from the sheep, visitors can watch the wool being processed on site. It will be combed, spun, woven, knit, crocheted, and felted into finished products. This is a true Sheep to Shawl Event. Over the three-day period at least three shawls will be created entirely from the wool shorn on the first morning of the event. It is rare to find a true Sheep to Shawl experience. Shearing and demonstrations take place inside the Amish built tour barn, which houses some of the animals as well as the wool processing, farm museum, and the gift shop. There are Short Course Fiber Classes available; learn drop spindling, hand carding, or needle felting during the event. Be sure to visit the Farm Animal Barn & pet the barnyard animals. Tour the educational interactive Farm Museum & Four-Story Observation Silo, as well as the Bible Garden. Bring the entire family.
